Might be a Stupid Question on Earning MP for Encounters

Recommended Posts

MP isn’t earned per encounter (necessarily) but per mission.

Mission Points: Like experience points, mission points (MP) are how a character earns advancement. They aren’t awarded for combat but instead for completing missions. You typically earn between 3 and 5 MP per session.

In the living series, those points are usually tied to specific goals within the episode: the players reached a certain destination, found a specific clue, saved a certain NPC, etc.  If the players miss that clue or don’t save the NPC, they don’t get that associated MP.  Whatever points they do earn are always awarded at the end of the mission.

To expand on this - the first 5 levels could be gained 1 / play session if you awarded maximum MP compared to something like D&D where after level 2 or 3 the differences in experience grow enough to give cause to award exp relevant to the difficulty class of each encounter.

I think what will give us all a hurdle to work with is the whole swap after level 5 from MP earned to MP spent to gain levels.
