Gideon Cross is the oldest of six children all named for Biblical warriors/heroes. He joined JROTC in high school and then ROTC in college. He currently holds the rank of Major.

He is an excellent poker player and puzzle solver. His puzzle solving skills are what brought him to the attention to the SGC, led to his recruitment and assignment to the Phoenix Base.  

Cross is 6' 1", with blond hair, blue eyes and a ready smile.
