An orphan from birth, Yt'el was raised by a small community of farmers on a remote planet ruled by a minor system lord. From a young age, he survived by hunting and foraging the backwater swamps and "finding" resources in the local town. 2 days before his 10th birthday, Yt'el stowed away aboard a transport glider in an attempt to avoid implantation. But not for long; he was discovered shortly after the ship left atmosphere. As a result, his birthday present was an implantation and tattoo bearing the mark of Heru'ur instead of that of his previous system lord, Khnum. From that point, Yt'el was trained in the ranks of the Jaffa, learning the ways of combat and of front line support. For years he served in Heru'ur's infantry, until an engagement on Chulak where he witnessed Rak'nor's defection. He joined the troops escaping the system lord's ranks. Unlike the majority of the rebelling Jaffa soldiers, Yt'el chose to instead join SG1 and work to liberate the Jaffa and other peoples across the galaxy.
